Plug Salmon Steelhead

Alaska is famous for being one of the best fishing places in the world. It is a paradise for anglers. Alaska is perfect for salmon fishing. There are different types of salmons - king salmon, red salmon, silver salmon, and pink salmon. The king salmon usually weighs between 20 and 40 pounds, but they can sometimes weigh over 100 pounds. You can fish them all year round in either freshwater or saltwater. It is an angler's dream to catch a king salmon.

o King Salmon and Silver Salmon Fishing- There are many methods to catch king salmon and silver salmon. Sometimes the techniques still depend upon the time of day, water, tidal conditions, and position on the river. You can catch them with back-bouncing hooks (baited with king salmon eggs), back-trolling Spin-n-Glow (propeller is connected to a hook baited with king Salmon eggs) and back-trolling banana shaped plugs (baited with herring or even without). Fly-fishing is also possible for catching a salmon, but it is perfect to have clear water for this choice.

o Red Salmon - Using flies is the best way to catch red salmon.

o Pink Salmon (also known as Humpies) - The best way to catch pink salmon is to use the same methods of catching a king and silver salmon.

For some people, salmon fishing in Alaska is a hobby, but for some it is a job. Alaska is truly an incredible place for fishing. If you want to experience great salmon fishing just try to visit Seward, Alaska. They have salmon fishing trips that can make you experience the action of the best salmon fishing. It is a dream for every angler to live out this kind of fun and excitement. However, there are many places in Alaska where you can easily find a place to go fishing. 50-pound king salmons are not unusual to catch in many inland streams.

In South-central Alaska, salmon runs in large rivers and coastal waters. It is home to some of the state's most famous fishing quarters. In Southeast Alaska, sometimes known as "panhandle" is a land of rushing mountain streams, deep creeks and glaciers. Summers are humid and breezy; winters are colder and snowy, but not colder than other places in Alaska not warmed by the ocean. A variety of fishes can be caught. Salmons come back in huge numbers of streams.

There are many red salmons (sockeye) in the North Pacific, Arctic Ocean, and freshwater systems of Alaska. In some parts, the red salmon exists in freshwater their whole lives, but is much smaller. Sockeye has a rich flavor and the most marketable salmon type. Its color is deep red and it does not have large black spots that the silver salmon and Chinook have.

The silver salmons (Coho) are exciting to angle because they make wild movements when hooked. They weigh 8 to 12 pounds and choose to stay in small streams to reproduce between July and November. Trolling or drifting is the best way to catch them when you are near the shore and when in freshwater cast and retrieve them.
