It can be difficult to get accurate information on colloidal silver, as many critics give misleading information on its possible side effects. For years, the FDA has waged an aggressive war against this natural supplement, severely limiting how manufacturers can discuss and market the product.

So if it is highly improbable to contract argyria from a properly manufactured product, where do these cases come from? Firstly, the condition is extremely rare, even when high doses are taken, with only a handful of recorded cases in history.
Another recent and high profile case came from Stan Jones, a Libertarian Party politician from Montana. Jones was ingesting a home made solution, and later admitted he did
a number of things to make the solution unsafe, including using unfiltered water, adding salt, creating extremely high concentrations of silver, and he did not filter out insoluble compounds afterwards.
